Hot Tub Lift Machine!
Hot tubs are WONDERFUL. They are relaxing. They are a great place to socialize. They can be therapeutic. They are also HEAVY.
How much does the average hot tub weigh? There is no easy answer to that question because they come in many shapes and sizes. But in general, a smaller 2-3 person hot tub can weigh about 500 lbs, and that is before water is added. Once you add water, you are usually looking at at least 3000 lbs. So consider a larger model for six people, which is double that in weight.
Now, we know concrete is durable, but there are limits.
Especially when considering the soil beneath your hot tub and all the problems that may occur there. For example:
Poor soil compaction: New properties sometimes don’t have soil that is compacted well. Other properties are built on soil with high sand content or different soils that settle easily. When settlement occurs on a slab with a hot tub sitting on it, the weight of the hot tub will cause the slab to sink, sometimes by many inches. This is dangerous to the hot tub and those sitting in it enjoying it!
Erosion: when the soil beneath a concrete slab washes away due to weather and runoff, voids can open up beneath that slab. We hate to be a broken record, but a void means a hot tub on that slab will cause the concrete to sink due to erosion. The same damage and dangers to the hot tub and occupants exist!
