The CONS of Mudjacking (and PROS of Poly Foam Lifting)
Mudjacking CONS
While mudjacking is cheaper and faster than replacing your concrete slab, there are also many cons if you make a pros and cons list for mudjacking vs. poly foam lifting for concrete repair. So let’s review these cons:
Long drying time - if you’re comparing mudjacking to poly foam lifting, mudjacking has a much longer drying time. It can take two days for your mudjacking to cure whereas it takes as little as 15 minutes for our polyurethane to cure.
Heavier materials - Mudjacking is comprised of sand, cement, and water. It weighs around 100 lbs per cubic foot. Polyurethane weighs in at about 2 lbs per cubic foot.
More drill holes - Mudjacking requires more holes but also larger holes. This means more places for weeds to grow and more places for water to intrude. The larger holes can compromise the integrity of your concrete slab as well.
It can wash away - Since it is made of sand, cement, and water there is a chance mudjacking materials can wash away over time. Polyurethane is there to stay, and it’s not affected by water. In the end, mudjacking is typically more expensive than polyurethane foam lifting and doesn’t last as long.
Additional Polyurethane PROS
There are a few other points to mention about polyurethane as a preferred solution for concrete lifting and leveling.
Polyurethane is environmentally friendly - Once the foam sets, it will not react with anything in the ground around it. It can’t leach into the soil or water.
When we do work, we don’t need a ton of equipment - With polyurethane foam lifting, we only need one truck, a few tools, and not a ton of manpower. We’ll be in and out while you run out and run errands.
It won’t break the bank - It’s a solution you can afford that you’ll only have to do once.
